Montreal, November 16, 2015 — Believing that the trial judge in Valleyfield made serious errors of law in her interpretation of race and racial profiling, a Black man found guilty of possession of a knuckle duster has sought leave to appeal the decision to the Quebec Superior Court.

JEWISH EMPLOYER IMPOSED RELIGION-BASED RESTRICTION ON JEWISH EMPLOYEE, ORDERED TO PAY $20,000


Montreal, November 10, 2015 — A Jewish hairstylist, who was banned from working on Saturdays by his Jewish employer and fired for speaking to clients about it, has won his case before the Quebec Human Rights and Youth Rights Commission.

In October 2011, the owners of Spa Orazen hired Mr. Richard Zilberg, a man of Jewish faith, as a hairstylist and colorist. At Spa Orazen, Mr. Zilberg worked an average of 30 hours per week, including Saturdays.

BLACK HAIR DISCRIMINATION CASE SENT TO INVESTIGATION AFTER MADISONS CHANGED POSITION ON MEDIATION


Montreal, November 6, 2015 — After having accepted last August to participate in mediation, Madisons New York Grill and Bar changed its position a few days and ended the option of amicable resolution of the civil rights complaint filed by CRARR on behalf of Ms. Lettia McNickle.

Mediation was set for later this month.
