Montreal, August 31, 2016 —CRARR has asked Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard to act immediately regarding the fact that for the first time since its creation in June 1976, the Quebec Human Rights and Youth Rights Commission has no Commissioners who are English-speaking, racialized or both.

Montréal, August 30, 2016 — The Quebec Human Rights and Youth Rights Commission has accepted two complaints of consumer racial profiling filed by CRARR, on behalf of an English-speaking Black nursing student in her twenties and her mother, an English-speaking Black woman in her forties, against Maxi in Lasalle, a borough of Montreal.

Montreal, August 18, 2016 — Tomee Elizabeth Sojourner, a Black Anglophone lesbian who had filed a discrimination complaint against a Commissioner of the Quebec Rental Board, has finally won her case against the Council for Administrative Justice (CJA), which, according to the Superior Court, had erred in its handling of her complaint two years ago.

Montréal, November 14, 2016 — The court hearing in the case of John Chilcott, the Black father who was intercepted by a Châteauguay police officer and pepper-sprayed while sitting in his car with his two young daughters, will continue at the Châteauguay Municipal Court on December 21, 2016.

Montreal, July 28, 2016 —The case of a Muslim mother who was told by a sales clerk at Costco, to “go back to your home country” will proceed to investigation after mediation failed last week.

In October 2015, Ms. Asma Al-Shawarghi, a Muslim who wears a hijab, went to the Costco store on Acadie Blvd., in Ville Saint-Laurent (a West-end municipality on the Island of Montreal). She was with her two children, aged 2 and 7, and her husband’s aunt.
