Montreal, July 14, 2011 --- A young black man who was stopped, questioned and searched in an abusive and arbitrary way by Montreal police officers four years ago has finally been successful with his racial profiling complaint with the Quebec Human Rights and Youth Rights Commission.

Montréal, 29 juin 2011 --- Suite à  une augmentation de cas d'erreurs graves dans le traitement des plaintes de discrimination et d'application de la loi en matière d'égalité, le CRARR monte actuellement un dossier qui sera présenté au législateur cet automne.

CRARR TO DOCUMENT SERIOUS PROBLEMS IN CIVIL RIGHTS PROTECTION

Montreal, June 29, 2011---Facing an increase in complaints from victims of racial discrimination whose cases have been mishandled by civil rights agencies, CRARR is preparing a report which it will present to legislators in the Fall.

A panel discussion with leading critical race thinkers and antiracist lawyers will be held in late Fall to mark the closure of the International Year of Persons of African Descent.

STEADY FLOW OF REQUESTS FOR HELP

During the Winter 2011 quarterly period, CRARR opened 54 new files that led to 48 formal interventions. Complaints were or would be filed for 30 persons with the Quebec Human Rights Commission, 3 with the Canadian Human Rights Commission and 2 with the Police Ethics Commissioner.

RACIAL DISCRIMINATION IN COMMUNITY RESIDENTIAL CARE EMPLOYMENT: HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION CONTINUES INVESTIGATION


Montreal, June 9, 2011---Despite the investigator's recommendation to close the case, the Quebec Human Rights and Youth Rights Commission (CDPDJ) has decided to continue its investigation into complaints of racial discrimination at a rehabilitation center for people with intellectual disabilities or pervasive developmental disorders.
