Montreal, November 26, 2013 --- CRARR will co-host two round table discussions on the Charter of Quebec Values/Bill 60, the government’s proposal law on state religious neutrality, gender equality and religion-based reasonable accommodation.

CRARR will hold two round table discussions on the Charter of Quebec Values/Bill 60. The round-table community dialogues seek to provide alternative and progressive critical analysis of the proposed policy paper/Bill, to examine its impact on different minority groups, and to identify strategies for concrete actions and discourses to uphold fundamental human rights and freedoms as guaranteed by the Canadian and Quebec Charters of Human Rights and Freedoms.

Montreal, November 14, 2013 --- In another blow to discrimination in employment at the City of Montreal, the Supreme Court has dismissed an application by the City to appeal a Quebec Court of Appeal decision that ruled in favor of a Black security employee.
NIXING THE N-WORD: STUDENT FILES CIVIL RIGHTS COMPLAINT AGAINST SCHOOL BOARD AND CLASSMATES

Montreal, November 7, 2013 --- An English-speaking Black male in his thirties has filed civil rights complaints against the Marguerite-Bourgeoys School Board and three classmates for repeatedly exposing him to racist jokes and slurs in front of other students and for depriving him of a racism-free learning environment.

Montréal, 24 octobre 2013 --- La pratique d’exiger, lors d’une enquête, qu’une personne soumette sa photo pour les fins de détermination de son identité ou de son appartenance raciale, est considérée « justifiée » par la Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse (CDPDJ).
Cette position a été confirmée par écrit le mois dernier par la CDPDJ en réponse à une remise en question de cette pratique.
LE CRARR DEMANDE L’INTERDICTION DE PORT D’UNIFORME ET D’ARME À LA MÉDIATION À LA COMMISSION DES DROITS

Montréal, 28 octobre 2013 --- La Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse (CDPDJ) doit interdire aux policiers visés par des plaintes de discrimination et de profilage de venir à la médiation en uniforme et avec leur arme à feu.
Telle est la demande formelle soumise la semaine dernière par le CRARR au président de la CDPDJ, M. Jacques Frémont.
CRARR SEEKS BAN OF POLICE UNFORMS AND WEAPONS AT HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MEDIATION SESSIONS

Montreal, October 28, 2013 --- The Quebec Human Rights and Youth Rights Commission should forbid police officers cited in discrimination and profiling complaints from coming to mediation in full uniform with their weapons.
This was a request made by CRARR last week to Commission Chair Jacques Frémont.

Montreal, October 1, 2013 --- The case of two Muslim Arab women in Joliette who are suing Sears for racism and seeking $75,000 in damages after being subjected to a manager’s xenophobic comments, violent expulsion and dismissed handling of their customer complaints, will be heard by the Quebec Human Rights Tribunal from December 17 to 20, 2013, in Montreal.
The hearings are open to the public and the media.
NIXING THE N-WORD: WORKER FILES CIVIL RIGHTS COMPLAINT AGAINST EMPLOYER

Montreal, September 30, 2013--- CRARR has filed a civil rights complaint on behalf of a English-speaking mechanic who was repeatedly called the N-word by his boss on the job.
The worker, Ted (not his real name), who looks white but is of mixed African ancestries, started to work in 2010 with a trucking company north of Montreal which had some Hispanic and Arab workers. Ted‘s mixed heritage was known to people at work.

Montreal, September 27, 2013--- Two Muslim youths in the West Island are filing complaints of discrimination against a Montreal police officer who told one of them to “shut your mouth” twice and who mimicked the South Asian accent of a back seat passenger.
