Montreal, Feb. 28, 2014 --- After a seven year legal battle and a judgement from the Quebec Court of Appeal, 15 Chinese workers who suffered discriminatory treatment at the hands of their employer, Calego International, were finally successful and were awarded $100,000 in moral damages by the Court.

BLACK MAN FILES COMPLAINT WITH FEDERAL PRIVACY COMMISSIONER OVER BANK'S VIDEO SURVEILLANCE


Montreal, March 18, 2014 --- A Black Montrealer whose racial profiling case is now before the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal has filed a complaint with the federal Privacy Commissioner against BMO Bank of Montreal, in which he alleges that BMO subjected him to non-consensual video surveillance and then used images it obtained of him in its defence.

CRARR TO HOLD PUBLIC EVENT TO CALL FOR COMPREHENSIVE POLICY ON SYSTEMIC RACISM


Montreal, March 7, 2014 --- Increasingly concerned about institutional refusal to address systemic racism and errors in handling complaints of this nature, particularly in employment, CRARR will join other community groups in hosting a public event on April 15, 2014 to call for a comprehensive policy and plan of action to tackle the issue in Quebec.

POLICE ETHICS TRIBUNAL REVERSED COMMISSIONER’S DECISION DUE TO PROBLEMATIC INVESTIGATION


Montreal, February 19, 2014 --- The Police Ethics Committee has invalidated a Police Ethics Commissioner’s decision to dismiss a NDG Black couple’s complaint, on the grounds that the Commissioner’s investigation produced findings that are different from those produced by the Quebec Human Rights and Youth Rights Commission about the same case and raised an apprehension of bias.

QUEBEC HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION ASKED TO PRODUCE POLICY ON SYSTEMIC RACISM


Montreal, February 18, 2014 --- A local English-speaking university lecturer and anti-oppression advocate has asked the Quebec Human Rights and Youth Rights Commission to disclose a copy of its detailed policy on systemic racism after his complaint was assessed by Commission staff and recommended for rejection.

His request for the policy may put to test the Commission’s record on systemic racism altogether.
