CRARR JOINS COALITION TO SUPPORT EMPLOYMENT EQUITY IN THE FEDERAL PUBLIC SERVICE

Montreal, July 23, 2010 --- In response to the Conservative government's review of employment equity in the federal public service, CRARR has joined a national movement to support the principle, law and policy of employment equity in federal civil service.

The Government's announcement came after a complaint by a white female applicant who applied for a position and was turned down because she was neither visible minority nor Aboriginal.

Last month, the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights, chaired by Conservative Senator Janis Johnson, issued a detailed report recommending actions to strengthen employment equity in the federal public service and achieve better representation of visible minorities, women, people with disabilities and Aboriginal peoples among federal civil servants.
