UPCOMING EVENT: POLICE ETHICS COMMISSIONER TO SPEAK ON SYSTEMIC DISCRIMINATION AND PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY IN POLICING


Montréal, January 31, 2019 — To mark Black History Month and the Nelson Mandela Day, CRARR will co-host with the Criminal Law Group of McGill University, a panel discussion entitled, “Systemic Discrimination: Challenges for Policing in An Age of Diversity and Heightened Public Scrutiny.”

The bilingual event will take place on Monday, February 11, 2019, from 5:30 to 8:00 pm, at Thomson House at 3650 McTavish (corner of Dr. Penfield).

The activity aims to promote public dialogue on systemic discrimination and public accountability in policing, including issues of professional conduct, community input and partnership, and bias-free police service delivery in diverse cities such as Montreal and Ottawa.

The keynote speaker will be Mr. Marc-André Dowd, Police Ethics Commissioner of Quebec. Please note that his speech will be in French.

Panelists include Ms. Ketcia Peters, Community Co-Chair of the Ottawa Police Community Equity Council; Dr. Myrna Lashley, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry at McGill University, and Mr. Marc Charbonneau, Chief Inspector of the Corporate Services Division of the Montreal Police Service.

The panel moderator will be Mr. Alain Babineau, CRARR Advisor, member of the Criminal Law Group, and a retired RCMP officer.

The event is open the public and the media.
