MEDIA ADVISORY: CRARR TO MAKE STATEMENT ON THE LATEST RESIGNATION AT THE QUEBEC HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION

Montreal, October 7, 2018 — CRARR will make a statement after Thanksgiving about the latest resignation of a Commissioner from the Quebec Human Rights and Youth Rights Commission.

Since January 2018, two other Commissioners in charge of Charter rights have stepped down, in addition to the abrupt resignation of the former interim Chairman due to allegations of sexual misconduct involving a minor.

The Commission is normally composed of a full-time Chair, one full-time Vice Chair responsible for Charter rights and the other full-time Vice-Chair responsible for youth rights. In addition, there are five part-time Charter Commissioners and five part-time youth rights Commissioners.

The Commission has a dual mandate to oversee rights and freedoms protected by the Quebec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms, and rights of youths placed under youth protection.
