CRARR TO TACKLE DOWNTOWN LANDLORDS' EXPLOITATION OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Montreal, September 19, 2011 --- As part of its Student Civil Rights Information Project (SCRIP), CRARR is seeking international students who are subject to predatory apartment rental practices such as requiring a copy of the passport; charging two to three months of rent in advance and other service fees.

Thanks to some cases that are making its way to the human rights commission, CRARR is working actively with student housing services and the international student association at Concordia University to document these illegal practices with the view to get the Commission to launch a systemic investigation into the situation in the downtown core. McGill University student associations are also being contacted to join in the action.
