BANNING CREOLE AT WORK : HAITIAN SECURITY GUARDS CHALLENGE RACIAL DISCRIMINATION AT IMMIGRATION PREVENTION CENTER


Montreal, April 26, 2011 --- Many Haitian security guards have been the object of suspension and other disciplinary measures of a discriminatory nature at the Immigration Prevention Center (IPC) due a policy banning the use of languages other than French and English in the workplace.

LE TRIBUNAL DES DROITS DE LA PERSONNE ACCORDE 150 000 $ AUX 15 TRAVAILLEURS CHINOIS VICTIMES DE DISCRIMINATION


Montréal, le 19 avril 2011--- Quinze travailleurs chinois qui ont été victimes de discrimination raciale en emploi en juillet 2006 ont remporté une grande victoire devant le Tribunal des droits de la personne, qui leur a accordé un total de 150 000 $ en dommages moraux et punitifs.

Montréal, le 30 mars 2011 --- La Commission des droits de la personne (CDPDJ) doit mener une autre enquête sur la situation d'un nombre important de médecins diplômés à  l'étranger qui vivent de la discrimination en milieu de résidence menant à  des évaluations arbitraires, à  l'échec du stage et à  leur expulsion du programme d'études doctorales.

CRARR CALLS FOR INQUIRY INTO FOREIGN-TRAINED MDs' DISCRIMINATION AT WORK AND EXPULSION FROM MEDICAL SCHOOLS

Montreal, March 30, 2011 --- The Quebec Human Rights and Youth Rights Commission should initiate another inquiry into the issue of foreign-trained doctors who experience discrimination in their residency which in turn leads to arbitrary evaluation, failure, and consequently, expulsion from their postdoctoral studies program.

FIRST CASE OF LANDLORD DISCRIMINATION AGAINST INTERNATIONAL STUDENT HEADING TO HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION

Montreal, March 25, 2011---The first housing discrimination case involving predatory rental practices directed at international students was filed today by CRARR on behalf of a Hispanic Concordia University student against a landlord downtown.

The case involves illegal requirement of advance rent payments; illegal interests, penalties and other “administrative fees”; illegal breaking of leasing transfer rules and harassment.
