CRARR TO APPEAR AT CITY'S CONSULTATION ON RACIAL PROFILING TOMORROW

Montréal, June 20, 2017 — CRARR will participate in the public consultation tomorrow at Montreal's City Hall to present its observations on the City's assessment of its performance on racial and social profiling.

CRARR is scheduled to present its comments at 3.00 pm, at City Hall, located at 275 Notre Dame East, Montreal.

CRARR has identified 13 issues related to the City's policies and practices on racial profiling, especially in policing, public transit and public housing. Some of CRARR's critical questions concern the lack of disclosure of the number of complaints and lawsuits against the Montreal Police Department for racial profiling and other racially discriminatory practices directed against people of color; the lack of disclosure on litigation costs and damages paid out to victims and complainants; inadequate focus on systemic barriers in the Municipal Court system; and the absence of qualitative evaluation of training and other measures to prevent, reduce and sanction racial profiling.
