HUMAN RIGHTS TRIBUNAL CANCELS CITY’S SUBPOENA OF HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION PRESIDENT

Montreal, December 11, 2009 --- Another court decision has put a dent in the City's multiple procedural attempts to prevent racial profiling cases against it from proceeding before the courts.

Cette activité vise à  souligner la Journée internationale des droits de la personne et la dernière commémoration de la décennie qui s'achève.

VICTIME D'ACTES HOMOPHOBES ? LE CRARR PEUT VOUS AIDER

Montréal, le 6 novembre 2009 --- Plusieurs témoignages de personnes qui ont été violentées dans le Village gai et d'autres secteurs du centre-ville de Montréal au cours des derniers mois préoccupent vivement le CRARR quant au respect des droits des personnes homosexuelles. Le CRARR invite les gais et lesbiennes, ou les personnes perçues comme l'étant, à  le contacter pour obtenir de l'aide si elles ont été victimes d'actes criminels à  caractère homophobe.

BLACK PUBLIC TRANSIT INSPECTOR AWARDED $9,500 FOR BEING CALLED THE N-WORD BY A TOW-TRUCK DRIVER

Montreal, November 3, 2009 --- A Black inspector of the Montreal Transit Corporation (MTC) has been awarded $9,500 by the Quebec Human Rights and Youth Rights Commission after being called the N-word by a driver of a towing company.

Montreal, October 26, 2009 --- A 23 year-old Black McGill female student is asking racialized youth to speak out about abusive arrests in the subway, after she became another victim of municipal authorities’ ongoing criminalization of Black youths.

Montreal, October 23, 2009 --- The case of Black community leader Gemma Raeburn and her two friends who were subject to racially discriminatory conduct by two Montreal police officers back in 2004 will go to trial in Winter 2010.

Attempts at mediation that took place this morning at the Quebec Human Rights Tribunal failed.

THE CASE OF FIFTEEN CHINESE WORKERS WHO WERE AWARDED $164,000 FOR RACISM ON THE JOB GOES TO COURT

Montreal, October 19, 2009 --- The case of fifteen Chinese workers at a Montreal manufacturing company who were recommended $164,000 in damages by the Quebec Human Rights and Youth Rights Commission for having been racially discriminated on the job, will head to the Quebec Human Rights Tribunal.
